Pumpkin Party

We had some friends over the other day for dinner.  It sort of turned into a pumpkin party when they came fully stocked with ten pumpkins.  Our kitchen transformed into a scooping, carving, seedy mess of laughs, concentration and fun.
Carter made things more interesting by pushing around a toy for thirty minutes while crashing into people–this made the carving sort of like an acrobatic event as well.  It was like a see how well you can do precise carving while simultaneously trying to jump out of the way of the toddler pushing a ride on toy.

I had a family session that morning at an orchard, so I picked some apples to make apple crisp.  I’m glad I finally made a batch. . . now that November is tomorrow and winter is around the corner.

Then we played Balderdash.  Which might be my absolute favorite game ever.  You either love it or hate it.  James hates it.  But he played along.  And we all laughed a ton.  The game is hilarious, if people play it hilariously.   And it’s been about five years since I’ve played it, so I was happy to welcome back my old friend.

Dinner was great.  Dessert was great.  Rockband didn’t work quite as expected.  But the company of friends is always welcome, and we had a perfectly wonderful time.
