My Two Little Men

Almost a year ago, we started redoing Brayden’s bedroom with the intentions of having the boy’s share a room.  It was slow work–we demoed part of the room and put in built in beds, one on each side of the room, where a long skinny storage space used to be.  James did mostly the whole thing by himself, with the help of my very handy stepdad. We decided that we wanted to do a surf theme, and possibly get some real surfboards as decoration, bolting them to the ceiling or something else fun like that.  But finding real surfboards for a reasonable price was impossible.  So one Sunday when I was out shopping with some of my craft night girls, we ran into some old weathered oars and decided that they could serve as inspiration for a new theme.  So I switched from surfing to nautical–but like a fun, J.Crew nautical look–sophisticated and preppy.  We got some shelving from Ikea, and I started decorating away.  The only problem is that I sort of jumped the gun a bit and went to town before the room was actually done.  It remains undone still–the molding isn’t finished, the closets aren’t finished, and the storage areas below the beds aren’t finished.  I also never painted the walls how I wanted to.  We made it about 85% through with finishing, but like many projects that we begin, we sort of lose steam right before finishing fully.  I know we will get to it someday–hopefully sooner than later.  And I promise, at some point, I will post pictures of the room!

I wanted to get some images of the boys printed and hung up in the room, and have been meaning to for quite some time.  Today, with nothing else on the agenda, it was a good morning to do a mini session with them. I threw some of their bedroom props in the car, we drove up to the lake, and we took a few pictures.  When I shoot my boys, I don’t take nearly as many as I would of a family that hired me to do pictures, but I usually end up with a few that I am happy with–today, I walked away with twelve that I really liked.  Don’t need much more than that!  They are so stinkin’ cute–though I’m quite biased 🙂
