“Sewing” At It Again

Get my title?  Like “going” at it again, but sewing?  If I had to explain it, perhaps it wasn’t as funny as I thought! 🙂

This past week, I wanted to try out some fun fabric that I saw awhile back at Joann’s.  It’s called PUL fabric. . . it’s waterproof.  People can make their own cloth diaper covers out of it, along with a variety of other fun things requiring waterproof features.  So I decided to get some.  They have packages with a variety of three–they were 40% off this week, so I picked some up, along with a couple of matching appliqués and went to town.

First, I made a couple of changing pads for the baby–for a quick diaper change (the second one didn’t make it in the pictures, oh well!).  I wanted to make something to hold diapers and wipes as well for the diaper bag, so I made a little carrying pouch for everything.  I have to admit that it was a little tricky trying to figure out the order to sew things in.  I needed to make flaps and use velcro and sew on little patches.  And a lot of it needed to be done in a particular order.  I definitely made good use of my seam ripper!

Then I made some burp cloths with the waterproof fabric on the backside so that we can use it both as burp clothes and something to put under the baby’s head while he’s laying down if he’s a spitter like my other two were!  As with all my projects, they are far from perfect.  And if you looked closely, you would see many small flaws.  But I always enjoy creating things with my own hands, and prefer it over buying, if possible.  It makes for unique, one of a kind items.  And those are always the best kind!
