Thrifting = Big bang for your buck

Luckily, I have kids that are not fussy.  They could care less if something is bought used, as long as it’s “totally awesome”.  I love to make my kids happy.  Mainly, I like to buy things for them that I know they would love to have.  Money can’t buy love I know, but I also love to give, and giving to my own children makes me happiest of all.  Of course, I’m also kind of a cheapskate.  So most of you know that I LOVE bargains and I LOVE thrift shopping.

On a second note, my kids are growing faster than I can keep up with.

The other day, I cleaned out Brayden’s shoe stash and had to put away about 75% of the shoes that were in there.  Too small.  James and I had date night last night and we had about 20 minutes in between dinner and our movie.  So we stopped at our nearest favorite thrift store.  And in twenty minutes, I hit a shoe jackpot for Brayden.  To be 100% honest, shopping for used shoes for my son who is seven, when I know how gross and dirty seven and eight year old boys are, well, it kind of skeeves James and I out.  So, our game plan is usually to wash the shoes as best we can, spray them with disinfectant and buy new shoelaces.  In the meantime, I can smile and be amazed that for less than $40, we bought Brayden TWO pairs of “totally awesome” Nike high tops, one pair of “Ben 10” converse all stars, one pair of winter boots, one pair of Nike indoor soccer shoes . . . and for Carter, a pair of Sperry shoes for church and a pair of Under Armour sneakers.  I don’t even want to know how much those would’ve cost new all together.

Big bang for our buck.  Doing it the Dave Ramsey way.  Or at least, trying our best!
