Stuck in the House

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t like staying home all day, every day.  We normally go somewhere three or four mornings a week to give us something to do.  Otherwise I’m too tempted to rely on electronics/tv to keep the boys busy.  And that irks me.  Brayden has no problem asking a hundred times to a day to turn on some sort of device that will mindlessly keep him busy.  Today, we were having a new carpet installed in our family room.  The installers were at our house from 7:40 am until 11, so we were stuck in the house while they were here, since obviously I wasn’t going to leave the house with two strangers here.  There is something much different about feeling like you’ve made a conscious decision to stay home versus feeling like you are stuck there because you aren’t allowed to leave.

I bought Brayden a couple of notebooks on clearance the other day at Target- $.45.  Yipee.  He’s always liked to doodle.  So we plopped down at the counter and he started drawing pictures to a story that he had watched at a friend’s house a little while back.  There was more to what he wanted to write.  But it takes him awhile to write things, so we tried to keep it simple.  His pictures are definitely my favorite part.  He’s getting good at details.  And he flies through his pictures, like he has the whole thing imagined in his brain before he puts in on paper.

And our second little artist?  He’s finally getting into coloring, but he will only use broken crayons with no wrappers.  Weird, huh?
