Words from Joshua’s Momma | My husband and I always knew we wanted to have a second child. When we found out we were pregnant for the second time there was quite a mix of emotions; the obvious joy, happiness and excitement and the anxiety of the unknown and change about to enter what had been our family of three for the past four years. I wondered how I could ever love anything as much as I did my first son, Zachary. A thought I am sure crosses the mind of every mother who is pregnant with their second child. And then my precious Joshua arrived and the instantaneous love at first sight hit me once again. My exact words as Joshua took his first breaths were “MY BABY.” I said these words as I reached to hold my new bundle of joy. One of those moments in time I will never forget.

I will not shy away from the fact that it was a transition and adjustment from going from one child to two. Our experience with Joshua has been quite different than with Zachary. Just like no two pregnancies are the same, neither are two children! We were not privy to the excessive crying or colic like symptoms Joshua enlightened us to. The exhaustion of taking care of a newborn and a four year old is real. There can be a sense of guilt you feel when you have to divide your attention between two of the things you love most in the world. Though challenging at times, becoming a parent and being blessed with a second child has taught me more than I ever could have imagined. The love you have for your children has no boundaries. Because a parent is hard, perhaps the hardest job you will ever have, but it is also the most precious and most rewarding gift you will ever receive. My advice is always remember that whatever you are doing as a parent whether it is your best day or your worst day, you are doing a great job. These times are only temporary and it truly doesn’t slow down, so cherish every moment.

This is part of the reason I love having my family photographed. For the past four years we have been thankful to have Bethany capture our family grow. She has been able to catch the most precious pictures over the years that I will cherish forever. I love pictures and photography and the ability it gives to go back in time and reflect on important milestones or memories. Bethany has a natural ability to create a setting where her clients feel comfortable, which I believe contributes to the perfection she is able to capture with her camera. I have witnessed her seize the moment and give me some of my most favorite images; that being done with a two year old whose attention span is short and wanted nothing to do with his picture being taken. I have watched her hold and rock my newborn, position and maneuver him in ways that seem unimaginable so that I could have the perfect shot of him in his first weeks of life. Her presence was calm and comforting even when Joshua had had enough. Her attention to detail, creativity, and communication with her clients guarantees satisfaction. I often hear friends and family comment on the cost of newborn or family photography. I would argue that there is no cost too high to be able to reflect on life’s most important moments.
