Packing for a Year

We are going on a little trip this weekend.  From tonight until Sunday.  Just a little trip.  You know. . . a couple days of rest, relaxation, and some time with our best friends.  A little trip to the woods to “camp” (but not real camping) . . . it’s actually a house.  On a Christmas Tree Farm.  But it is in the middle of nowhere, so at least there is a sense of getting away.

Might I stress that it’s just a little trip–if I haven’t already mentioned that.

But what I am wondering about our little trip, is why it is taking me the better of five days to get everything packed up?

I feel like we are going away for a year.  I have about five lists going.  Pacifiers, monitors, bug spray, three different kinds of shoes for everyone.  Sweatshirt, coat, vest–never know what the weather might do.  Pack and play and blow up toddler bed.  Sippy cups.  Toys, books, boppy, johnny jump up.  Stuffed animal, blankie and flashlight.  Baby puffs, formula, bottles, baby food, baby spoons, bibs, burp cloths.  Turn off heat, shut down computer, feed cat, take out garbage, do the dishes.  Don’t want to come home to a messy house.  And of course, camera equipment–can’t forget that!

And that’s about 10% of the list.  I’m going dizzy.

And if you looked at the back of my wagon, stuffed to the brim, you’d think we were moving out of our house.

All this for forty-eight hours of a little trip.  I think I’m so tired from preparing for the trip, I might have to sleep the entire time to make up for my emotional and physical exhaustion.  So, James, Jami and Rodney . . . I hope you have fun with all the boys.  You can find me in the back room at camp.  Sleeping the weekend away.

And seriously. . . don’t even get me started on the unpacking process.  I might faint if I start thinking about that.

To keep myself a little sane through this extensive packing for our little trip, I decided to do something that I’m sure my pediatrician would really be happy about.  I put in a Baby Einstein DVD for Carter.  Yep, that’s right.  I plopped my seven-month old baby in front of the TV and put a movie on for him.  Cool, huh?

You be the judge of whether or not he was into it.

I’m pretty sure he dug it.  And I’m pretty sure it helped me cross of only about 1.2% of my packing list.
