Old Friends

We wake up and it’s chilly.  I love it.  I dress the boys in long sleeve shirts and hope that it stays chilly so they can stay in their long sleeve shirts.  Remember back in March when all I did was talk about how I wanted to flowers to bloom and the sun to come out and summer to arrive?  Well, now I want the crisp air of autumn.  Candles to cozy a room.  Blankets covering my feet.

Winter can stay far away from me.  But I welcome fall with open arms. Fall and I are old friends.  We have an understanding–and fall knows that flip flops will stay out.  That although I am in a state of depression when they finally fall off the trees, the changing colors of the leaves never gets old year after year.  The feeling of a perfect, round pumpkin being hauled from the patch into a wagon ride full of hay is heavenly.  And although I don’t love to eat them, that picking apples fresh from a tree can make anyone’s day a little brighter.

I wish I could hold on to having my husband home with us.  That’s the only downfall of the change in seasons.  It means that those two “s” words have arrived.
