New Life | 2014 Recap.

2014 was an amazing year–I found my business grew in so many wonderful ways, but the one aspect of my business that I found that the most growth happened–both in the number of sessions booked and my abilities–was newborns.  In 2013, I only shot ten newborns the entire year.  In 2014 that number more than tripled.  I know I’ve mentioned this before, but there was a time when I found that I wanted to give up shooting newborns all together.  I had a couple of tough sessions that left me wondering if I was cut out to be a newborn photographer.  I felt like I was missing something–I didn’t know the tricks, and I certainly wasn’t finding that newborn sessions were naturally something I excelled in.  I was baffled at how other newborn photographers managed these amazing shots–looking at all these images even in this blog post, it looks simple.  They sleep.  You pose them.  You put them in cute little (safe) props.  Truly though, it’s anything but easy.  And the images are proof that a picture can be deceiving. I think any of the parents who were here in my studio observing what really goes into it would tell you that it takes patience . . .it takes sweat . . . it takes time.  I spent some time “studying” earlier this year.  I practiced.  If there was one thing I worked on the most this year, by far, it was newborns.  Gradually, my love for newborn sessions this year grew tremendously, and I am so incredibly grateful for the parents who entrusted me with their new child’s first professional pictures.  Cheers to 2014 and the precious little bundles that came to see me!  Here is one image from every newborn session that I shot this year.
