My Hour of Fabulous Fall Fun

On Saturday morning, for the first time in I don’t know how long, we had NOTHING to do. It was quite strange really. So, I decided it was a must for our family to experience apple picking together. No family is complete without a good dose of apple picking. We found a nice farm (or orchard as James insisted on calling it) and we set off for some picking pleasure. We took a nice tractor ride into the orchard and passed rows and rows AND rows of pumpkins, eggplant, gourds and apples before we stopped and were released into The Wild. We were allowed to pick from four different types of trees on that particular day. Brayden loved picking up an apple from the ground, taking a teeny bite, finding a new apple on the ground and then throwing down the old one. It’s a good thing Brayden has a thinking mommy because I packed our vegetable peeler so that our little man didn’t have to worry about the apple skin (which he doesn’t do so well with–having only 6.5 teeth, it’s quite difficult to grind up that tough stuff). so, call me a dork–I pulled out that old peeler and made those apples naked. i guess i prefer indecent exposure πŸ™‚ anyways, we picked our apples, finding some especially small “cute” ones for our especially small “cute” son and climbed back aboard the S.S. Return to Home Base. Our apples only cost $5.16! We didn’t pick too many, but we definitely have enough to do lots with. I just hope they don’t sit in our pretty bowl on our counter for decoration their entire lifespan. I’m hoping to make apple crisp. Oh, speaking of apples (or, I guess we have been this entire time), we bought this delectable Apple Caramel Pecan Pie. Now, I’m not normally a fan of Pecans, and sometimes not even a fan of Apple Pie, but MAN OH MAN, is this pie good. It’s an apple pie with this crumbly cinnamony ground-up pecan topping of goodness and sin. And if that’s not bad enough, there’s this thick caramel topping drizzled all over the top. I almost died when I warmed it up and ate it with a scoop of vanilla bean frozen yogurt (Thanks, Christy and Ben for the leftovers!). Well, enough of my tale of apples. . . take a look at some of our pictures. Sniff, sniff–my camera is STILL being repaired (it’s been out of my possession for over a month). So we brought our good old pocket-sized Kodak Easyshare. I was sad not to have my Olympus friend in tow, because I would have gotten some killer pictures, but at least we have some cute ones to remember our time by–even if they aren’t award winners πŸ™‚ Happy Fall everyone!
