I now am a “real” studio newborn photographer in Rochester, NY! So thankful that we moved to make space for a studio. In an effort to keep my blog material up to date, I’m going to post a few session highlights at once, and then posted fuller individual posts in the upcoming weeks. June was a wonderful month for newborns for me. . . I finally had my new studio up and running, though it still needs a few tweaks. But I was happy to welcome some amazing little ones in to see me–it’s always such a joy for me to photograph newborns. They are just so precious and new . . . there is nothing quite like a wee one so new in this world.
In the past eight months or so, I’ve made it necessary for clients to come to my studio instead of me traveling to them on their request. It was getting harder and harder for me to do this–not being able to control the temperature and the light and the distractions. Not to mention that though newborns are my tiniest clients, they require the most amount of props. Keeping everything in studio makes it much more consistent for me, not only so I have my lighting consistent, and the temperature is at the ideal number, but also because I have everything on hand that I need. When I used to visit other peoples’ homes, I could only pack so much up with me, and so if I needed something in a pinch or wanted a specific item for a setup at the last minute, I may not have had it.
I realize this means that I don’t book all that inquire–many people want me to come to them (and I totally get that, as they are just days out from having given birth)–or they are a little distance away from me and would rather not make the trip with a new tiny one. But overall, I think it’s been helpful for growing my business, and I’ve seen an improvement in my newborn images. As always, I am constantly looking for ways to grow and improve and am looking forward to what the future has in store!
