Heroes, Pocket Change & Lovely Things, Part I

A few weeks back, I wrote in this post about an idea that James had come up with.  Brayden isn’t doing it fifteen times in one day like he did the first couple of days, but we usually pick one or two activity cards every day.  It’s really helpful, because to be honest, we do have quite a bit of toys.  And while I have sold many in our own garage sales and given a lot away to a friend who was having a big sale to raise money for a missions trip, we do still have many that get forgotten about.  So when Brayden pulls out an activity card that says, play with Rescue Heroes, and I pull out the container that holds all of them, he plays with them like it’s the very first time he’s seen them–only because it’s probably been a month since he has last taken them out.

Yes, I did mention up above how we do have quite a bit of toys.  Many of them are out right now in our family room.  In the next day or two I need to put about half of them down in our basement in the “toy swap closet” because guess what folks??. . . . Garage Sale Season has arrived!!  And let me point out that I put Garage Sale Season in proper capital letters because it’s that important.

It becomes a Thursday/Friday morning activity that Brayden and I have enjoyed for the past few years.  And now Carter is going to be initiated. . . although he will have to spend most of the summer garage saleing (I never know if that is a word. . . saleing?) in his stroller, because he is a wild man.  Even though we have enough toys for a daycare, some would say, I still find it an enjoyable hobby to find cheap things to entertain my children.  On days that we go to sales and bring something home, they are always entertained for quite some time.  Plus, in all honesty, I only buy things that are so cheap that whenever I have my own garage sale and resell them, I make money on them.  So, toys really do pay for themselves and more.  It just might take a couple of years for the turnover rate 🙂  And I don’t mind having my own sales. . . I think I’ve done about four in the past few years.

Fisher Price Little People Garage– Sells for $44 on Amazon.  I bought it for Carter’s Room today for $2.
V.Tech Wall-E Learning Laptop– Sells for $69.99 on Amazon.  Cost me $.33 yesterday.  I got three toys for a dollar at this garage sale.
In case you are wondering, yes, I do come home and look things up to see how much of a deal I got.  I’m a complete nerd.  The whole garage sale thing is sort of an addiction.  Maybe sort of isn’t the right word for it.
On another note, I decided to do a sort of peak into the things that I find lovely in my home.  So I will call this, Lovely Things, Part I.  It will be a kind of random assortment of stuff in my house.

I hope that you find yourself surrounded by things that you find lovely as well 🙂  Happy Friday!!
