Friday’s Review

My sister-in-law Rachelle has always said that she just loves watching her boys play sports. She goes to their practices and all the games, and just beams with happiness while she watches them. I don’t think I ever really understood what she meant until very recently. I just love watching Brayden play baseball. I know, I know. I’m crazy. It’s very boring for a lot of people. He rarely ever gets the ball while he’s in the field because he’s very young compared to some of the kids that he’s playing with and well, they’ve played longer, know more and just get to the ball faster, he really still has no idea what he’s doing either. . . but I just love to watch him. I don’t know why. It makes me happy, and it’s sort of a feeling that’s hard to explain. I look around at a lot of the other parents–none of them are calling out to their sons to do anything, to give them helpful hints. Half of them have their faces buried in their phones (something that’s enough to make me cry in itself), and I think to myself, we must be the crazy ones. I have my big old camera out. James and I are both calling out to Brayden to remind him of this or that, or to give him encouragement. Or to tell him to stop doing something. And every time I say something I tell myself to stop saying things, because people think we are probably the crazy, annoying parents that need to settle down a bit. We’re not rowdy by any means. We’re just a bit more verbally involved than everyone else I guess. Oh well. Such is life.

In Sawyer news, ten months has flown by. He’s very active, crawling all over to explore, cruising around on anything available, and is very good at keeping himself entertained with making messes everywhere. He will eat just about anything I give him, which is wonderful. Fingers crossed that he will continue to grow up a good eater. We have one good one and one bad one so far, and I can tell you that the good eater makes our lives a million times easier. I’d be thrilled with another!

Carter finished up preschool yesterday, with an end of the year picnic. I’m surprised they end so early–there’s still a full month of regular school left for public school kids. So, I’m going to have to figure out something for him to do a few times a week with friends so he doesn’t get stir crazy. Next year, he’s not old enough for Kindergarten yet, so he’ll do Pre-K with some of his closest friends. I think he’ll have a great time. Their class for next year right now only has eight kids registered–that’s great for the kids! Not so great for the program as far as finances go though, so let’s hope a few more kids sign up.  A downward trend in attendance could mean disaster.  It’s happening all over the place.  We’re happy with the preschool so far.  Brayden had the same two teachers that Carter had this year (and he will have them again next year). We just love them. . . they are both sweet and nurturing. Carter loves going to see them, and I couldn’t be happier with it–I’m 100% comfortable that when I drop him off, he is in good, loving, Christian hands.
