Debora & Craig | A Barn at Hillspring Farm Wedding | Corning, NY

It’s not typical anymore that I walk into a wedding never having met the bride and groom, but I met Debora and Craig for the very first time on their wedding day. They live in Long Island, so they aren’t right around the corner–their wedding wasn’t right around the corner from us either. The reception venue was very close to the border of New York and Pennsylvania and a good couple of hours from us. But talk about picturesque and beautiful. Debora’s salon was on this adorable street in downtown Corning, and I loved the feel and everything about it. We did our First Look at Centerway Square in Corning, and I was thrilled with the fun area–it’s refreshing to have some new spots to shoot in!  Debora and Craig both were not sure about the First Look. Debora changed her mind first, and then talked Craig into it–I’m pretty positive that both of them were happy with the decision in the end. It’s hard to break out of the traditional thought of seeing each other for the first time at the church, but in this day and age, times are changing, and a lot more couples are embracing (and loving!) seeing each other beforehand in order to fit in more pictures and then to be able to enjoy the rest of the day without a lot of stress.

The whole day was amazing. James and I enjoyed so much about the wedding. Debora was born in Brazil, and had a lot of family members that came over for the wedding. There were so many traditional Brazilian things that they incorporated into the wedding. The Brazilian desserts were amazing, and we learned a lot about the meaning behind a few of the desserts. I enjoyed a traditional Bem Casados cake. These little, delightfully delicious cakes are given as a favor at the end of Brazilian weddings.  They are made from two circular cakes that are meant to show that the couple is united together in mutual respect and then they are sealed with a tasty filling and wrapped and tied with a bow.  There were many other handmade Brazilian desserts that were served as well, and of course, we had a sampling of some. Who wouldn’t!?

The reception was beautiful. The Barn was decorated to perfection, and I loved the rustic feel. Debora and Craig had many details that incorporated burlap. Hydrangeas, mason jars and twine could be found everywhere, tying in the theme beautifully.  And what a gorgeous day it was!  I’m sure everyone was relieved to hear the weather would be free of rain, because there was room to roam at the Barn and the party moved outside for a bit where the guests enjoyed an amazing handmade game of corn hole and the kids ran around happily with their bubble wands. Craig’s parents designed the corn hole game, and the Brazil and United States design on the boards were amazing! Their favors included wooden fans for the ladies and a Brasil bottle opener and United States wine charms for the men.

Debora and Craig, we loved your day, and were so honored to be a part of capturing the memories for you!  Blessings to you and the beginning of your lives together!
