Beach Bums

The beach definitely has a different kind of feel when you have a little one in tow. Sawyer needs to be watched like a hawk in all areas–getting too close to the water. Putting stuff in his mouth. Wandering off aimlessly with no qualms about going too far. So one of the two of us was literally about three feet  or less from him the entire time we were there.  We followed him around everywhere, but did let him wander without hindering his wanderings too much. We ended up digging a couple of shallow holes in the sand for him and filled them with water, which he was delighted about and spent a lot of time climbing in and out of the holes, going from one to the next. And he was digging the water too, not even caring if a wave came and pummeled him, splashing salt water all over his face.

But, with a little one, that means a lot less fun for the adults. One of the two of us pretty much was tied down the entire time, and of course that means we aren’t free to act on our own accord. I would’ve loved to sit in a chair and read for awhile while listening to the waves. I would’ve spent more time in the water (I got about four minutes in the water when Sawyer finally fell asleep, only to literally wake up eight minutes later. And no, I’m not exaggerating).  Going for a walk with everyone down the shoreline a bit would’ve been fun as well. But these things we will save for a few years from now 🙂  Until then, we will continue trying to be happy where we are! 🙂
