Rochester, NY Family Photographer- Let’s be honest here. I study a LOT of photographers work. I have a business instagram feed that is solely the work of other photographers. I scroll. And scroll and scroll. I get inspiration. I often feel far inferior. Sometimes I feel proud of myself. Sometimes I don’t.
Mostly though, I study and pay attention. For a long time I have been very drawn to images that have rich colors. A bit moodier. Deeper shadows. Golden yellows and muted bolds. And so lately I have been working on things behind the scenes. Capturing the actual image is only part of the job. The rest is taking the ingredients and molding it into a finished product–like a baked good. Which combination is going to give me the right flavor? And so I have been practicing manipulating my RAW files, and I have been working toward the look of those images that I have been so drawn to. It’s a work in progress, but I have enough sessions from last year to practice on before my outdoor sessions begin this year in May.
This session was done in October of 2017–the gallery I presented to the family was edited consistently with the style that I had used the past couple of years. But I’m definitely thinking that I’m going to be making a change. And this was good practice for me. <3
