The Welkleys were a fun group–and I especially love that they brought along something that was important to them. A little piece of their family history–a milk crate from the family dairy farm from way back. It shows they are proud of their history, and it was just such a nice personal touch for an image for them to hang on their wall.
Large families are always a challenge to photograph–placing everyone in the right spot based on their height and comfort level. Little kids are pretty easy to pose–stick them on a lap or in someone’s arms. Older kids are more of a puzzle. But it’s so special to me when families with older kids have their pictures done. Most of the time, people do it often when their children are little, and then start to forget that it’s still important to capture their family even as everyone is entering adulthood. So I’m glad the Welkleys found it a perfect time to do their photos.
I also try to stay consistent with what I do with each individual when I’m shooting families. I know a lot of people like to hang a “series” on their walls and showing off each child in a similar way, with consistent editing is a nice way for them to be able to do that.
