The First Goodbye

Brayden is at the age where he is beginning to understand what you might not ever see this person again means.  And I feel terribly about it when it comes to Chase, who lives across the street.  It’s sort of like having a built in playmate.  And Brayden adores him.
Right now, they are in the other room, playing Mario Kart together.  I love hearing them conversing back and forth while they play.  They are both really good boys, so their game talk consists mostly of giggles and saying things like, you shrunk me, silly!  And let’s finish the race together!
Moving back into our old street, mainly consisting of other people and retirees, is going to be a big change.  Brayden will no longer be able to look out the front windows, notice that Chase is home and then ask if he could go play.
So this is it.  Typing this as the last time my little boy is getting play with one of his friends.  Knowing that they may not ever see each other again.  And knowing that in just a couple of days, our life here on Charlton Road is coming to an end.  Two months ago, we had no idea we would even be moving.  Life has a way sneaking the unimaginable into the mix–just when you least expect it.
So thank you Chase, for your friendship.  Brayden is going to miss you.  And you will always be known in my heart as his first goodbye.
