New Inspirations

I once read somewhere a long time ago that it’s a great thing to be able to generate multiple streams of income.  I’ve thought a lot about that recently, especially this year since I won’t be shooting a lot of weddings due to being on maternity leave, and that was a huge source of income for us last year.  So James and I thought about what we could do. . . he could ref soccer games this summer, he could try to teach an online class, though we don’t even know how to go about getting him into something like that.  And I am left to try to come up with ways to earn a bit of income without leaving the house much.  I don’t mind that.  I like using my creativity to generate some income, even if it’s not a huge amount of money.

So I thought of something that helps me out in two areas.  Making hats for newborn photographers.  This helps me out in two areas because one, it has been bringing in a small stream of income every week–even if that’s just $50-100.  And two, I keep about one out of every three hats I make for my own newborn hat stash–which also is saving us money because that means it’s less that I am buying from other vendors.  I actually find it amazingly fun to create these hats.  They are unique and there aren’t two hats that are the same, which is fun for photographers.

Here are many of the hats I’ve made since “opening” my shop.  You can find my little shop on facebook here.   It’s nothing fancy.  But I have sold over twenty hats now, and that to me is amazing, since I’ve been opened for only about three weeks.  Who knows how long I will do this. . . I may stop next week!  But I’ve had fun in the meantime, and it’s something a little different for me to do in ALL that free time I have.
