A Holimont Wedding in Ellicottville, NY | Katie & Ben
Katie and Ben’s wedding had some impressive vision. Katie really wanted to get married on the top of a mountain–and her family had a cabin growing up in the beautiful Ellicottville, NY area. So it only made sense for them to choose a ski slope in that town to use at their wedding venue. At the top of Holimont’s mountain, you could see a beautiful treed valley below. That’s the magic view they envisioned for their ceremony. Chairlifts would bring their guests up to the top, and the ceremony would take place up there with the fresh air and gorgeous view.
Ellicottville had different plans for their wedding though. Sandwiched between a couple of sixty degree days sat October 3rd. . . at a frigid thirty-five degrees and pouring ran (you’ll be able to see the rain in some of the images!). Needless to say, there was a lot of disappointment. The one wish that Katie and Ben had was now an impossible one. The ceremony was moved into the ski lodge, and mostly everyone stayed on the ground. Katie decided at the last minute that she still wanted to go up to the top of the mountain with Ben to grab a few pictures. James and I must have looked so silly with all of our rain gear, but we were able to go up to the top, dressed in coats, hats, rain boots and protective camera gear. We were cold, and definitely wet, but I’m so glad that Katie decided she wanted to make the trip up. What an amazing bride she was–so laid back, and okay if her dress got a little dirty. We had to do a lot of the outdoor pictures under a covered porch, but later into the evening we were able to sneak out for a few more after the rain had subsided briefly.
Though the day was cold and wet, there was nothing but love, happiness and warmth inside of the ski lodge. Congratulations, Katie and Ben. May you forever continue the amazing adventure you have begun . . .
