In Like a Lamb

Last night, Carter gave us five hours of straight sleep. Even then, I had to wake him up. If he wasn’t still so little, I would’ve left him to see how long he could go . . . but the wee one had to eat, so I did the responsible thing. Here’s to hoping it will become a trend–I’d take five hours of sleep at one time any day . . . that’s more sleep lumped together than I’ve had in many months. The end of my pregnancy was ridiculous, so even now, I’m getting more sleep with my newborn. Strange how that happens. But none the less, I am still tired all the time. Being on duty 24/7 is leaving me drained beyond belief.

Carter is the complete opposite of Brayden . . . sleeps a lot and nurses not so often. I hope the sleeping part sticks. Brayden’s eyes popped open the moment you set him down, even if you thought he was in a dead sleep. Carter at least will stay asleep for a little while before realizing you aren’t still holding him close. Instead of falling asleep at the appropriate time, Brayden would do it while eating. This led to nursing pretty much around the clock. Carter seems to have gotten the hang of the whole process a little better–I have already nursed Carter for longer than I did with Brayden. I hope now we are past the “I want to quit–this is the hardest, most awful, painful thing I’ve ever done” and into the “this isn’t so bad now that we have a mutual agreement” phase. I hope. I hope.
I took many pictures today. I took a lot of Brayden. I took so many that editing will have to wait for another day. Another post. Another break (they don’t come that often). For now, here are a few pictures of the littlest Chase member.
