Five Week Low Down

Sawyer was five weeks old a couple of days ago.  At the doctors yesterday, he was 9 lbs, 8 oz, which is perfect–he’s doing well and we’re thrilled.  Brayden was still bigger at birth than Sawyer is now, but hey, they’re each different, right?  By this time next year, Sawyer might weigh as much as Carter though, because at 3 1/2, he’s still only 27 pounds.  It’s so interesting to see how each child is so incredibly different.

Some observations about our newest one:

-He’s very hard to figure out: Sometimes he wants to be held, sometimes he wants to be put down, sometimes he wants the swing, sometimes he wants to lay on a blanket, and you get the point

-If he has a fully belly, he’s normally very content, and loves laying on a blanket and “hanging out”

-We’ve put him to sleep in his swing almost every single night of his life, with exception of the past few nights, where we are finally trying the bassinet.

-He’s not usually much of a napper and especially isn’t when he’s not being held while sleeping.  Most of the time, he sleeps less than 30 minutes before waking up crying.  Half of the time, he never goes back to sleep

-He doesn’t mind diaper or outfit changes

-His middle brother is absolutely in love with him

-He smiles every now and then when we talk to him.  Usually you have to go away for a couple of minutes, and then when you come back and talk really close to him, getting his attention, he’ll smile a few times.  Super cute.

-At night, he usually gives us about 4 hours of sleep, and then the second half of the night, only about 2.5 hours.

-Newborn sleepers are too small now, but three month ones seem huge.  0-3 month pants are ridiculously big, and I have a hard time figuring out what to put him in.

-He’s not too fond of his car seat

-He’s super messy and gets spit up everywhere!

-He definitely has less hair than both his brothers did.  And he has cute, scrawny little chicken legs.

-His eyes were brown right from the get go. . . so no blue eyed child this time!
