First Project, oh yeah . . .

So, of course, being a forty-fifth time homeowner (okay, that was exaggerating slightly–we’re on our third home), I realize that projects are around every corner. In our first house, we nearly changed every single room in the eighteen months we lived there. Once we finished, we said, aha. . . we need more projects. Let’s buy a new house! And so we did. Unfortunately, we didn’t have quite as much freedom that time around, since Brayden joined us in our new home. But we were able to get a few things done, including making a master suite and bathroom, remodeling two other bathrooms and painting the exterior of the house. Situations change, as they always will, and we were led to believe that moving from that second house would be in our best interest, so West Irondequoit, you better watch out. Mr. and Mrs. Project are on the loose. James made a vow that he wouldn’t do a project in the new house for at least a month. I didn’t make that vow, and because he just can’t help himself, I roped him into doing my projects. Maybe if they weren’t his, they didn’t count? Anyways, everyone will be surprised to hear that the very first project I tackled was the laundry room. The laundry room, you say? Yes, that’s correct. Before the project, I wouldn’t have gotten caught dead in that laundry room. Talk about dirty, creepy and all around nasty. There was paneling, first of all, which I despise. Also, the linoleum floors looked like they had a purply-pink substance that leaked through up to the surface (GROSS!!) and the utility sink was just awful. Laundry is something that is always going to be there, so I picked the room first because it was important to me (plus, it was doable in a week. . . which is always nice.) Fast results 🙂 So, here’s what I did. I painted the paneling white, painted the doors, got some new curtains to cover the window looking into the dark corner of our yard, painted the outside of the utility sink, put a new floor in (peel and stick tiles), bought a remnant of rug to make it more cozy, purchased a few pieces of art to hang on the wall and then painted a couple of coordinating stripes on the walls to give it a modern sort of look. The result–me in the laundry room a lot more frequently than would’ve ever happened. The only problem about the whole thing is that I forgot to take before pictures! What a goofball!
