In the past, we’ve signed up Brayden for a few things here and there.  Art class a couple of times a year.  Soccer in the summer.  Baseball in the spring.  And I think that’s been it.

But in the beginning of January, things sort of exploded around here.

We decided our kids needed to be a little bit more active–keeping them healthy in the winter seems to be a tricky thing, since they don’t get outside really much at all.  We know that kids don’t need to be signed up for a million things, but we do want them to be able to explore some things while they are young so we can rule out what they are definitely interested in, and what they really have no inclination toward.  Between the two of them, they are currently signed up for five things for the next couple of months–soccer, basketball, gymnastics, art and baseball (winter training).  They both love everything so far, so it’s going to be tough to narrow it down!  Luckily there are so many great offerings and opportunities in our area. . . we certainly don’t take it for granted!

The worst part about all of it now is the cold. . . dragging the kids out multiple times a day in the frigid weather is something I don’t look forward to at all.  Also, one a small occasion, I have to wake Sawyer up from his nap because it’s time to leave. . . I don’t enjoy that either.  It’s tough being the third child!  Also, it’s super hard to bring him to watch, since all he wants to do is run around with the balls.  Kicking and throwing and generally getting in the way.  So, we either have to keep him with one of us while the other one goes to the activity, or we have to keep him in the stroller, which you can imaging he thoroughly hates.

Basketball might be my favorite of the activities right now.  It’s through our town rec program, and although the coaches are very young (high school maybe?), it’s been so great for Brayden to try something different and learn a new skill set.  Also, the running is super good for him–we all know that the winter belly hits in full force around this time of year!  Gotta keep that in check! 🙂
