Breaking It In

The Christmas season is upon us, and there is no stopping that now–even if it is somehow sixty-seven degrees outside on December 4th in Western, NY.  Our tree is up.  Our stockings are up.  But for some reason this year, all of the different holidays and seasons have been sneaking up on me with no warning.  Summer was here and gone before I even had a chance to shake hands with it.  And then autumn was behind me before I even sat outside and smelled the crisp, fall air.  And now, here is December–the one month we have to enjoy the Christmas season and festivities.  We are determined to take it by the reigns and hold it in our grasp, before January takes away the Christmas season joy and the snow dampens my spirit until April.

So we broke the season in on December 1st.  Out came the advent calendar.  Twenty-five wrapped Christmas books lay under the tree (ones that we already owned, mind you. . . but the kids don’t remember most of them from last year).  And to the village Christmas parade we went to this past weekend.  Brayden’s little face was lit up with excitement the entire time–Carter just plugged his ears.  But we had a great time.  And that’s how we broke in December 🙂
