At the very end of last year, I decided to take the plunge and invest in a one on one mentoring session with a great photographer down near Atlanta. Turns out, it was hands down the best business investment of my year. Bianca, from Photography by Axsys Design, taught me so many things in our time together. She is so incredibly knowledgeable in newborn photography that I was blown away. Not only did she patiently answer all of my questions, but she taught me a ton of things. Little tiny things that you would never know were important until after you learned them. Positioning, and lighting and head placement and finger placement and a million other things. I am so thankful that I decided to make the trek down halfway across the country to learn from Bianca. I definitely believe that I grew leaps and bounds taking what I learned from our mentoring session and putting it into practice. Of course, I still have a long way to go, but baby steps are so important!

In addition to learning so many things during my mentoring with her, I also received the original newborn posing pillow that she created. During mentoring, I also used her mini posing set as well and ended up purchasing those because I fell in love with them. All three of them together make an amazing addition to newborn session workflow. They are easy to use work much better than the wads of rolled up cloths I had been using before that.

The images on the right have all been taken since the mentoring. Proof that investing in mentoring is an endeavor worth pursuing!
