A Whole New World

Sawyer really hasn’t been outside much at all. Sure, back at the end of last summer, when it was still nice enough to go outside, he was out with us now and then. But he’s never been outside during a time when he actually could observe things and look around.

This morning, I was sitting in our family room and noticed that the sun was coming through our neighbors bare shrubs. First of all, it was the sun that I noticed–because the sun doesn’t grace us with it’s presence much these days. And secondly, the way it was coming through the shrubs made me happy and giddy on the inside. So, I ran upstairs and grabbed my trusty Squirt crate, grabbed my camera and said to myself–Self, let’s go take a few pictures of Sawyer in the snow while the sun looks that way. And then I noted that I had about ten minutes left before the sun was completely above the shrubs and wouldn’t be so pretty anymore. Problem- Sawyer was still in his pajamas.  Solution- Run upstairs and grab a sweater vest and sweater and unbutton his pajamas halfway so they were still covering his legs, throw the vest and sweater on his, and stick him in the crate. See?  Crisis diverted. Oh, and I grabbed a cute hat on my way from my prop stash.

It was pretty hard getting his attention, and to take any images of him looking at the camera near impossible.  He was enthralled with being outside. Surprisingly, there were birds chirping and flying overhead (because, of course, it’s supposed to be Spring). The snow was melting and dripping from the house, making fun noises. Everything was distracting to him, as it should be. And you could tell he was intrigued. It was fun to watch him. And I think I actually like the ones better where he isn’t looking at the camera, because it’s pretty clear that he was in awe.

I’m definitely looking forward to the warmth so that he can explore the world a bit more.
